TRACK 1

Testing AI

There are more and more systems that incorporate Artificial Intelligence. It is well known that these are systems that have characteristics, such as their non-deterministic nature, that impose added complexity to testing activities and software quality and in general, when generating the required evidence of their proper functioning.

Throughout this track we will discuss techniques and good practices that allow us to design and test AI with the levels of acceptance and confidence that the market demands for this type of systems and, on the other hand, we will learn to conceive “Test Oracles” that allow testing a system based on artificial intelligence giving evidence of its proper behavior.

It is a very complete track that will address the problem both from the design and development of an AI-based system and from the recommended testing techniques and practices.

The speakers of this track work at  WIPRO and SQUERIST companies and both have extensive experience in the development and testing of systems based on artificial intelligence.

Addressing the certification processes of a system is a complex process since we not only have to develop a system that works and meets the required quality criteria, but we have to provide the evidence demanded by the certifying entities.

In this track we will learn to rationalize our Validation and Verification process by putting the efforts where it is most necessary, with the aim of achieving both a successful certification and a quality product that can be maintained over time.

The second speaker of the track will address a very common problem such as the development of product families and will show us how to address a validation process in this type of development.

The speakers of this track belong to the companies SQS and Intel and both have been active for many years in the field of Validation, Verification and certification of hardware and software products, therefore, they will offer us their vision from the point of view of his high practical knowledge.

TRACK 3

Test Strategies
Test Automation

The automation of tests is an always complex task, which must respond to a well-defined strategy, which is closely linked to the technology and architecture of the systems under test and which requires a dedication of specialized resources both for its conception and assembly and for its maintenance.

During this track we will learn how to address the design of the test strategy of a system with an architecture based on microservices and we will deepen the added complexity imposed by the existence of a communication with different types of robots. The speaker for this presentation will be the professional in charge of the continuous deployment of microservices to the cloud of Vanderlande , specialized in providing solutions for automatic warehouses and baggage management systems in airports.

We will also approach to the need to undertake a complete restructuring of a testing process in the last stages of the development of a system. It is a train control system that being in its last phase of development, with an operational testing strategy, begins to show relevant problems. This paper will show the action plan, methods and tools implemented that include the conception and implementation of a new test strategy supported by an automated test environment capable of guaranteeing the quality of the system in installments and offering the required certification evidence.

The presentation will be in charge of the person in charge of tests of  CGI company system. Finally, we will learn to introduce testing and test automation from the earliest stages of the product design and development process. In this specific case it will be a Hardware and Software product from Bang and Oluffsen.

Management the QA and testing process is essential to ensure the quality of developments in time and under controlled budget levels. It is a function with well-defined activities and for which there are methodologies and approaches, but whose effectiveness depends on key development processes such as defect management, requirements management or automation processes.

This Track is designed to address both perspectives. It is a full day track because of the importance of the subject in all sectors. In the world of embedded systems it is often difficult to reproduce the failures and this is a big problem since it is the initial step to solve them. What is proposed in the first talk of this track is a combination of IBT and DATA Trace, two very useful tools to reproduce defects and improve our code coverage and flows in embedded systems. We will have an Intel professional specialized in the validation of firmware solutions for this presentation.

We will not forget in this track of the agile world where we usually focus on specifying the functional requirements of a system but it is not so usual to address non-functional aspects. In this paper we will see how to integrate the quality, testing and non-functional requirements of a system in the management of agile development projects with the help of a speaker from the AgilePool company, expert in agile and lean methodologies.

On the other hand, we all know that the risk analysis of a product is complex, therefore, within this track we will also learn not only to perform a correct risk analysis but also to correlate the evolution of the risks of a product with the Evolution of the product itself. Our rapporteur, who currently works at Intel improving the company’s development process, will also show us the best methods to choose the most appropriate test cases based on the changes (and correlated risks) that each version incorporates.

Evaluating the performance of a software version may be more or less complex, but it is acceptable. However, evaluating the performance of complex system versions that are made up of different components and also evaluating their evolution over time is a much more difficult task. To do this, QA & TEST will show a framework that will help us analyze the performance of product versions, determining the problem that a specific component or process can impose.

The last speaker of the track will come from Adidas  to present both methodological approaches, tools and technologies as the keys to develop an action plan when implementing a continuous testing process in a large company.

TRACK 5

Testing Techniques

There are different techniques to address the design and execution of tests of a system. This track will address two very relevant techniques to improve the coverage of embedded system tests.

Firmware has limited interfaces with the outside and, therefore, many times the visibility of the code is very limited for the tester. The code insertion technique has been used for some time, but we will learn how to evolve this technique to detect unexpected errors and not just verify what was planned. The rapporteur, Adir Salman, is responsible for validation Intel.

Ali Khalid, from the Emirates airline, explains that in the case of embedded systems it is not always easy to verify certain system functionalities. In this talk we will see the technique of injection of faults and, how, with it, we can test a greater number of requirements in embedded systems, improve the coverage of the testing process and guarantee the quality of the systems. Ali has a long experience validating both critical security systems and commercial systems and currently works in Emirates addressing a digital transformation project that affects the entire company.

Today it is obvious that the software is present everywhere, its growth is exponential and, of course, it has an impact on energy consumption. However, it is not easy to find approximations to determine, first, in isolation and then reduce the footprint of the software within a device.

The objective of this track is to offer solutions to be able to measure and control the energy consumption derived from the software. The first speaker is an expert in modeling, design and validation of embedded systems and works at the University of Grenoble maintaining a great relationship with the industry. In his presentation he will teach us to abstract from the physical part of a device when considering energy consumption at the software level and with them to develop a realistic and valid model for design, programming and testing activities.

Eduard Enoiu, our last speaker in this track, we will present various methods for testing the energy consumption of an embedded system within a complex system and explain the general premise of automated test generation (ATG) for consumption of energy and how it can be used to help in the testing process.

TRACK 7

Test Infrastructure

Proper selection and effective management of the test infrastructure is essential to develop a reliable testing process. There is currently a wide range of resources and tools that open a range of opportunities.

Our first speaker will allow us to learn from your experience using cloud services as part of your testing infrastructure. It will show problems, limitations and opportunities both at a technical and operational level. Finally, it will show us how to find the appropriate metrics that allow measuring the success of the process.

Our second speaker will address the complexity in the validation that many companies that are migrating from monolithic applications to microservice-based applications face. This complexity grows even more if we have hardware devices such as mobiles or IOT devices. Implementing systems of integration and continuous deployment optimized for microservices is a challenge and will show us how to approach it and how to manage the infrastructure properly.
